The swimming pool history

The first borehole in Podhájska village was realized in 1973 by oil mine workers from Gbelov within the scope of Ľudovít Štúr Geological Institute in Bratislava. The research concerned the spatial distribution of the earth’s heat and focused on the search for hyperthermal waters in the Western Carpathians. The well was carried out at the request of the company named Agrotermál, which lies south of the village, behind the Liska stream, intended to use the water from the well as a heating medium for greenhouses. Since the area lies near the towns of Šurany, Nové Zámky, Vráble, and their surroundings, it has the potential to become significant for recreational use. They completed the drilling work by reaching a depth of 1900 m. From it, under immense pressure, hot water of approximately 80 °C with an iodine content, which turns it brown, began to spew out. The circumstances mentioned above contributed to the fact that in the following months, the local population built a pool of road panels measuring 35 x 15 x 1.2 m and a small pool with dimensions of 8 x 8.5 x 0.9 m. The recreation facility ran under the District administration of recreational services and tourism in Nové Zámky. The Svätuša village chronicle states that the well’s cost climbed up to 4,800,000 CZK, which was undoubtedly significant in that period. In 1974, they built sanitary facilities, showers, and changing rooms around the pools. Gradually, other swimming pools, buffets, the Termál restaurant, and the Borinka hotel were built, necessary for the visitors to stay in the area of the thermal swimming pool.

The development of the thermal swimming pool has been recorded since the transfer of ownership to the municipality in 1991. The reconstruction of the Borinka Hotel began gradually. In 1998, the main entrance to the thermal swimming pool, the changing room, and the auto camping were built, and the swimming pools were repaired.
The rehabilitation and relaxation center project started in 1999. Its construction began in 2000 and was completed in 18 months.
In 2003, a complete reconstruction of the well and the winter pool was carried out. A whirlpool with hydromassage and a bubble bath was also built during this year. At the end of the mentioned year, project work began based on a comprehensive urban study of the development of the thermal swimming pool following the spatial plan. This project included the expansion of attractive services in the area of swimming pools and a complete change of the provided gastronomic services as part of the construction of a new gastro center.
